The Challenge:

The Property Industry Foundation (PIF) is a not-for-profit that helps build homes for young people experiencing homelessness.

We were invited to work with PIF on their peer-to-peer event, Steps for Homeless Youth – a walking and running challenge at Melbourne’s Albert Park.

PIF’s goal was to exceed their 2024 income of $114,000 and raise more vital funds for youth homelessness building projects.

The Solution:

We created a powerful supporter journey covering every stage of the event lifecycle – from acquisition and registration through to engagement, fundraising, gamification, renewal, and post-event communications.

Our approach combined emotional storytelling with uplifting, action-focused messaging to spark generosity and bring out a bit of friendly competition. We wrote with energy and heart, helping supporters feel proud of their impact and excited to rally their teams.

The emails were designed to build momentum leading up to the event, support participants with fundraising tools, and celebrate the impact of their efforts – all while staying true to the event’s spirit of community and connection.

The Results:

On Friday 9 May, more than 680 industry supporters laced up their runners and took on the Steps for Homeless Youth challenge.

Together, they raised $140,000—a 23% increase from the previous year’s total of $114,000.

It was an outstanding result that will go directly towards building safe homes for young people with nowhere else to turn.

“Steps for Homeless Youth is one of our most successful events, bringing the Victorian construction and property industry together to raise awareness for homeless youth and to fundraise towards secure homes and support so they can repair their lives and plan for a stable future.”
